- You will be able to cope with more complicated living needs, and be involved in casual conversations covering topics such as current events and general professional interests.
- You will be able to handle limited work requirements, but not serious complications from a social aspect.
- You will be able to make friends without feeling a major language barrier.
- Professional/business terminology will be introduced, allowing for a general comprehension in work related areas.
- While you will probably make some mistakes in pronunciation, your accent will be intelligible and clear.
- Your cultural awareness will be developed as well, in order to make you feel more at ease when you are immersed in the native culture, or when you meet a native colleague. Stereotypes will be recognized, then discussed and explained in detail.
- Students will study the appropriate countries by reading and through different audiovisual and written materials. At that point, native speakers from those countries will be invited to class, so that they can be asked questions about their countries, traditions, ways of doing business, climate, people and any other aspect of the culture students are interested in.
- Field trips will be organized (for example, if we are studying Spain, we will invite students to share tapas and paella with us. They will be explained the menu and served in Spanish. All the conversations will be in Spanish as well.
